Overview

RealScan is a Chrome browser extension that detects whether content is AI-generated. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and what is stored.

RealScan does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal information. We do not operate any servers or databases and have no ability to identify who you are or track your browsing activity.

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored exclusively on your device using Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and never leaves your device except as described below:

API Key Your Google Gemini API key, saved only so you don't have to re-enter it on each use.
Scan Mode Your preferred scan mode (Text, Image, or Auto), saved as a local preference.

Data Sent to Third Parties

When you initiate a scan, the content you select (text or image) is sent directly from your browser to the Google Gemini API for AI detection analysis. This transmission is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

RealScan does not intercept, log, or store this data at any point. No other third parties receive any data.

Permissions Justification

activeTab To access the page you are currently viewing when you activate a scan.
scripting To inject the selection overlay onto the active page so you can drag-select content.
storage To save your API key and preferences locally on your device.
generativelanguage
.googleapis.com
To send selected content to the Gemini API for AI detection analysis.
<all_urls> To allow the scan overlay to work on any webpage you choose to analyze.

Children's Privacy

RealScan is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
